House is in addition to "cry" of mayors for the survival of local governments (27/04/2010)

Spanish municipalities now face the worst situation in the history of democracy.

The economic crisis and the need to give local authorities an adequate and stable funding have compounded the problem, to the point of placing them on the brink of collapse.

This has been shown mayors and chairpersons of Provincial People's Party, including Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, gathered this morning at the Congress of Deputies.

To an extreme, measures that are required must also be extraordinary.

Thus, for municipalities to continue to provide basic and essential services and prevent the collapse of local government, the mayors called upon the government a supplementary fund of local funding and to rescind the increase in VAT rates scheduled for July, whose cost, in the case of Murcia, is estimated at more than 3 million euros.

Also, city leaders considered essential that the Government should defer to 2012 the payment of the amounts for the debit balances of local corporations from participating in state revenue.

The adoption of a new Law on Local Finance and a Basic Law of Government and Local Government are essential issues to ensure the future of local government.

In this regard, the Chamber recalled that the Prime Minister, in his inaugural address, pledged to address the creation of a stable funding framework for local government, why has claimed that "meets its commitments once ".

Murcia Mayor noted that "municipalities have a problem, but we are not the problem.

On the contrary, we are part of the solution, if we consider the weight of local government in supporting economic activity in the cities and job creation. "

In this sense, Miguel Angel House has said that local government will continue to "guarantee of services to citizens" and "social policy players" in Spain.
