The University of Murcia and Casa Sefarad-Israel have signed a collaboration agreement which has among its objectives to bring society the knowledge Murcia Jewish culture.
The agreement was signed drawing to be held in Murcia International Meeting "Sefarad in the Diaspora, 1492-2010" which has gathered in the city's Archaeological Museum experts to lecture on theater these days Sephardic legal relations between Muslims and Jews in Al-Andalus, literature, folk medicine, geography and gastronomy.
The Director of Education and Research of Casa Sefarad, Sonia Sanchez, who represented the director of this institution, Diego de Ojeda, referred to the potential of an agreement that allows cooperation with universities in Israel, which he said are to cutting edge research and innovation.
The rector of the University, José Antonio Cobacho, stressed the importance of the agreement, which will help deepen the study of the legacy of the Sephardic culture and live as an integral part of Spanish culture and to value the people of Israel and Jewish tradition.
Cobacho said that people can not forget their past and described the expulsion of Jews and Moors as one of the saddest facts of the history of Spain.
The agreement includes the completion of summer courses, seminars, conferences and meetings that are of interest to both institutions, and the development of training, information exchange and retrieval and dissemination of Jewish archaeological heritage, among other activities.
The event also included the rector of Coordination and Communication and convention promoter, Maria Angeles Esteban, the rector of International Relations and Innovation, Pilar Arnaiz, and the Vice Chancellor of University Extension, Francisco Guillermo Diaz.
