The University of Murcia introduced the eco-car to compete in the Eco Marathon (23/04/2010)

The team "UMU Ecomarathon" this morning at the Faculty of Informatics prototype "Salzillo III", the ecological car that will compete in the Shell Eco-marathon to be held in Lausitz (Germany) from 5 to 7 May.

This vehicle, which has been entirely designed and built by students at the University of Murcia, is involved in the prototype category and uses an internal combustion engine powered by ethanol.

In the previous edition of this test, in which student teams from across Europe are facing with their prototypes in a circuit in search of lower average fuel consumption, the car got the University of Murcia go 257 miles per gallon of ethanol.

In the presentation ceremony, the rector of the University, José Antonio Cobacho, and one of the teachers in the team, Antonio González Carpena, highlighted the challenge of a test in which more than 200 teams compete.

He also met representatives of the sponsors of the prototype, which are the company DAVASA, the Agency Energy Management in the Region of Murcia (ARGEM), the Regional Federation of Employers of the Metal (FREMM) and the College of Industrial Engineers Region (COIIRM).
