Prevent and control truancy among children under 15 years of age is the aim pursued the city of Murcia in the implementation of an occupational class Espinardo.

For its implementation, the City of Murcia in 2008 signed a cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Education, Science and Research of the Autonomous Region of Murcia

The Deputy Mayor of Education and Personal, Pilar Megía, this morning visited the premises and held a meeting with students in the classroom.

Note that this school year there are 11 students enrolled 15 years and exceptionally, three students of 14 and two 16 years.

These students are assigned to the IES "José Planes" Espinardo.

The classroom is in the CEIP "Salzillo" (C / San Fermín No. 6) in the neighborhood of the Holy Spirit to 200 meters away from the Secondary School to which students are assigned.

All students are from the Institute, although most of them had chronic truancy, school drop-reaching in some cases.

Deschooling or serious risk of dropping out, family situation and / or socio-culturally disadvantaged, had not achieved the objectives of compulsory secondary education, curriculum gap of more than two courses high rate of absenteeism, and history of difficulties in the process socialization are some situations that have led children to join the occupational class.

Truancy is a phenomenon that continues to produce and detect in the schools, although the causes that generate it are not always the same, it is also true that the unfavorable conditions of a family nature, economic and sociocultural are frequent.

It should be noted that the City of Murcia has spent several years working through Social Services, the problem of truancy in coordination with schools in the municipality.

Under that agreement, the Ministry of Education, Science and Research provides the necessary personnel for the development of occupational class, facilitates both the monitoring of absenteeism of students, such as coordination of schools and educational services with the municipal social services , and establishes follow-up on the student population attending the compulsory age families and coordination with the competent municipal services.

For its part, the City of Murcia launches development projects and complementary actions in the field of foreign educational compensation, that is intended to ensure the enrichment of educational opportunities and equal opportunities in education.

It also provides the proper infrastructure and equipment of classrooms and workshops for the development of occupational class and the overall budget for its operation.

Besides providing a municipal to coordinate the program and follow up of children of occupational class and make those resources available to the classroom to encourage the proper development of it.
