The situation of local authorities in times of crisis, the time axis to be held tomorrow at City Hall (15/04/2010)

The most important issues that affect local government finances in times of crisis is the focus of the conference to be held tomorrow at the hall of the building adjacent to City Hall, which was organized by the city of Murcia and University Murcia (UMU).

Although in recent years revenues in the local farms have been improved thanks to major urban activity that have undergone certain municipalities, is also true that as a result of the current economic crisis, these contributions have been reduced considerably and caused local authorities have had to substantially reduce their income.

The conference, to be held tomorrow and is entitled "The Local Tax to the Economic Crisis", have as a priority to make a reflection about the situation in which municipalities are currently in a time when the crisis is affecting strongly to the municipal coffers, while expenses continue to increase due to maintenance and expansion of services offered to citizens.

The day will start at 9.30 pm and will be opened by the Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Inmaculada García, the Minister of Universities, Business and Research, Salvador Marín, the Rector of the University of Murcia Jose Antonio Cobacho, the Deputy Mayor of Finance, Joaquin Moya-Angeles and professor at the Universidad de Murcia, María José Portillo.

At 10:00 am there will be the first conference "The local public sector and the economic crisis, from the hands of Professor of Political Economy and Public Finance at the University of Murcia, Enrique Egea Ibáñez.

This conference will be hosted by Professor of Tax Law at the University of Murcia, Javier Martín Fernández.

The panel will comprise: Councilman Joaquin Moya-Angeler, Professor Javier Suárez, Jesús García (local advisor), Professor Maria José Portillo and the Director General of Local Administration, Juan Antonio Morales.
