The Mayor Chamber adheres to "Earth Hour" (23/03/2010)

Various municipal buildings, as well as the Cathedral and the Christ of Monteagudo, among others, kept the lights off on Saturday of 20.30 to 21.30 hours

Mayor House has joined "Earth Hour" to be held next Saturday from 20.30 to 21.30 hours.

Driven by WWF, is an international initiative to combat climate change, with which Murcia is committed and for which dedicated resources, facilities and budgets.

Mayor's accession implies a commitment to the city to turn out the lights on the facades of the Cathedral, the Town Hall and Annex Building Glorieta, "the Bishop's Palace, the Christ of Monteagudo del Carmen Church, the Old Bridge and the monument Sardina to the river, thus recalling the important role they can play in combating climate change.

Miguel Angel House was one of the first Spanish mayors that joined the European Covenant of Mayors for sustainability that are now part of nearly 300 Spanish and 1,200 cities across Europe.

Support for this agreement is the commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 20% by 2020, and so established the Strategy to Combat Climate Change adopted by the City Council in 2007.

Murcia path in this project, coordinated through the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change chaired by the Mayor - has been recognized in Europe as an example of good practice in energy efficiency and a role model in developing of an action plan for sustainable energy, which will enable a move towards a more rational use of energy, encouraging savings and strengthening its renewable energy.

The celebration of "Earth Hour" is framed between initiatives intended to sensitize governments and the general public about the problem of climate change.

In addition to the Chamber membership and the city of Murcia as an institution, the Mayor calls for the participation of society, showing that private and personal gestures also advances the commitment to sustainability.

"Earth Hour" is also in one of the objectives of the Strategy to Fight Climate Change Murcia, namely to raise awareness and awareness for the causes and consequences of climate change.

The facades of the Cathedral, the Episcopal Palace and City Hall Annex Building will be turned off coinciding with the passage of the procession of the Brotherhood of Charity, which will depart from Santa Catalina to 19.45 hours.
