They call for the immediate protection of the site (08/03/2010)

The Civic Platform for the Defence of the Archaeological Heritage of San Esteban has called Mr. Ujaldón at a meeting held this morning for the immediate protection of the site to prevent further deterioration due to rain.

The platform has required that is not carried out the burial without protection and advice of archaeologists heads of the excavation.

The Civic Platform for the Defence of the Archaeological Heritage of San Esteban, before the news appeared in the local press today, which concerned the intention of the government to bury the field, held an urgent meeting with the Director General of Heritage and Cultural Heritage, to show their concern and outrage to news published.

During this meeting Mr. Enrique Ujaldón pledged to continue excavations at the site, protect and consolidate the areas affected by the rains and to value the remains.

In any case, as said Mr. Ujaldón, the Department plans to cover all of the excavated area as stated by the City of Murcia, contradicting the story that appeared in local media today.

The Directorate General, said as Mr. Ujaldón, plans to start building and excavation work within two months.

At the same time pledged that once they can enter the site without damaging most of the state it is because of the rains begin work:

Consolidation of the walls affected by rain

Clean the site of the rubbish accumulated in the same

Ongoing maintenance work for the settlement of the flooded bilge pumps.

Personal commitment to avoid further damage to the reservoir by the abandonment.

The Civic Platform for the Defence of the Archaeological Heritage of San Esteban considered totally inadequate measures we have received since arriving late after 3 months of continuous neglect.

The Ministry of Culture has the necessary legal and administrative mechanisms to protect the site tomorrow, St. Stephen of the continuous rains which he is held by the negligence of the government.

The mobilizations continue until Mr Ujaldón commitments a reality.

If these commitments are not met or were attempted in vain to close the building and excavation activities, action will be taken to mobilize both legal and that the Platform considers necessary to effectively protect the site and excavation continued.

The Civic Platform is developing actions in the coming days if no deposit was protected from the rain.
