Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi received last night from the hands of the Councillor for Culture, Fátima Barnuevo, the Ibn Arabi film award created by the city of Murcia.
Majidi has received during his career dozens of awards at major international festivals including Berlin, San Sebastian, Montreal, Gijón, Sao Paulo, Thessaloniki, Turin or Fajr, and the director has received honorary awards Douglas Sirk (2001) and Friends of Vittorio de Sica (2003).
Also, one of his films 'Children of Heaven' was the first time in the history of Iranian cinema, nominated for best foreign film Oscar the year he won "Life is Beautiful" Roberto Benigni.
Furthermore, in the Civic Center will screen doors Castilla 1 to March 5 of this filmmaker a retrospective that includes the feature films "Children of Paradise," "The Color of Paradise" (selected by Time magazine and critics of 'New York Times as one of the ten best films of the year of release), "Father" and "Rain" and the documentary "Barefoot to Herat", "Camp Olympics" and "In the name of God. "
The award Ibn Arabi, a small sculpture by artist and designer Angel Haro, prefaces the next convening of the first edition of Ambulatory Film Festival, which central axis will travel in all its manifestations, both physical and geographical such as the interior and spiritual, to be held also at the center doors of Castile, Murcia, in 2011, and later will travel to other cities in the world.
The celebrated Sufi philosopher and poet Ibn Arabi (Murcia, 1165-Damascus, 1240) named the award for being a tireless traveler, because of the importance of his thinking and his concept of geographical and interior journey, a life experience that promotes tolerance and respect for all cultures and beliefs, precisely the spirit that wants to claim the festival, representing Majidi, the first recipient.
