The City of Murcia is a person before the Supreme Court to uphold the Christ of Monteagudo (17/02/2010)

The City continues to drive the conservation of the image of Christ Monteagudo and today moved a step closer to defend this emblem of the municipality, which has attracted the full support of Murcia.

The Governing Board gave the green light to the motion of Mayor for the City of Murcia resource person in the litigation brought by the association "rule of law" on fundamental rights in reference to the Christ of Monteagudo.

The motion proposes that the local corporation to appear before the Board of Administrative Litigation of the Supreme Court of Madrid-section 9 - in the action against the Ministry of Economy and Finance by the Association referred to it by requesting the removal of religious symbol a public space: in this case the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The motion proposes to assert any actions, defenses, promoting events, resources that come before the competent courts and, in general, the laws authorizing measures to better defend the rights and interests of the City of Murcia to be sign sentence.

It will be recalled, the government team of the City of Murcia, ruled by the Popular Party opposes the attempt to eliminate a hallmark of Murcia as emblematic of the Sacred Heart of Jesus located in Monteagudo, one of the most valued symbols in the municipality.

In this advocacy and support to keep the symbols of identity of Murcia, the Governing Board agreed to call, last week to the competent authority to declare the Monteagudo Christ as a Cultural (BIC).

The Board then agreed to use all necessary means to uphold and protect the cultural heritage of Murcia and guard against any tampering.

Thus, the request for a declaration of BIC of this monument reflects the interest of protecting it in its present location.
