Ruiz leads the Assembly the controversy around the Cristo de Monteagudo (13/02/2010)

Juan Carlos Ruiz: "Zapatero has allowed to question our nation, our flag, our language and now our symbols"

The spokesman of the Popular Group, Juan Carlos Ruiz, will next week to the full Regional Assembly this week the controversy around the situation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Monteagudo and ask the President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, the measures and actions to be undertaken in defense against the attempt to remove the Sacred Heart of Jesus Monteagudo.

Popular spokesman believed that the trigger for this spiral of "barbarity and madness" born of "dereliction of duties of the Government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has allowed to question our nation, our flag, our language and now our symbols."

Furthermore, in the case of Christ Monteagudo, Juan Carlos Ruiz believes that "the people themselves and said loud and clear what is your opinion on this attempt to eliminate one of the most characteristic symbols of our region."

Hence the popular spokesman will ask at the next plenary session in which President Valcárcel submit to questions from the parliamentary groups represented in the Regional Assembly on the measures and actions to be taken from the Regional Government.

According to Ruiz, "the initiative to remove the monument is born of disrespect shown by the Socialist government's Office for our traditions and our Christian roots."

"As it respects the symbols of other cultures, we demand respect do they correspond to our origins."

The regional government has always sided with the citizens of the Region of Murcia and this occasion is no exception for the president Valcárcel.

Popular spokesman has also joined the statements by the mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, which ensured that the very idea of removing the statue seemed genuine outrage.

Finally, Juan Carlos Ruiz called for "sanity" especially in avoiding "unnecessary harm to thousands of people who worship these symbols that do evil or harm anyone."
