Culture retrieves the Servite Chapel of the Brotherhood in the church of San Bartolomé de Murcia (10/02/2010)

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, today announced the restoration work carried out in the chapel of the Confraternity of the Servite church of San Bartolomé de Murcia.

The works carried out under the project by the architect Juan de Dios de la Hoz, involves an investment of 271,474 euros fifty percent funded by the Regional Government and the Diocese of Cartagena.

The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the rehabilitation of the chapel and highlighted its artistic and architectural value, "residing in the intervention in the space of three great artists such as Pedro Justo Millán and Cerdan, and Paul Sístori, which was responsible for perform the original painted decoration. "

Likewise, Cruz announced that he will sign an agreement with the Diocese of Cartagena to continue the restoration of the church of St. Bartholomew is an emblematic example of neoclassical architecture of Murcia, "he added.

The building had a poor condition with moisture, cracks and repainting that have been restored.

Servite's Chapel is a modernist work, which stood the altar of Our Lady of Sorrows, head of the Brotherhood of Servite, and work of Francisco Salzillo imager, circa 1795.

The architectural decoration of the altar consists of a single body defined by two giant order columns with Corinthian capitals and plain shaft with corresponding traspilastras.

On the load-bearing you can see the entablature, with two pieces of curved pediment.
