Bacons Bridge will become a district model for the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The town participates in a pilot project called PEPESEC, funded by the European Union, which is the design and implementation of an energy plan with the objective that 20% of the energy consumed in the hamlet from renewable sources , improve energy efficiency by 20% and 20% decrease in emissions of greenhouse gases.

This project is coordinated by the Department of Environment and Urban Quality, who runs Adela Martinez-Cache, with the advice of the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change of the City of Murcia (ALEM).

Technical Department of the Environment and Urban Quality Municipal presented the project to neighbors and groups of Bacons Bridge, with the goal of everyone involved in this initiative.

They have also released the new neighbors Solar Thermal Ordinance, which came into force in October 2008 (developed in the project PROSTO).

Both projects are funded by the Intelligent Energy for Europe, European Commission, which is one of the programs that divides the Framework Programme for Competitiveness and Innovation in the EU.

The goal is to make plans for achieving sustainable energy community.

PEPESEC project will take place on Bacons Bridge and Sucina, which has already been submitted to the neighbors.

The Hall has chosen these two districts as a model because the former is representative of the localities of Campo de Murcia, and the second from the garden.

Once implemented the plan, and after verifying their results, will be other villages.

Bacons Bridge is an area of 5.3 square kilometers with an annual population growth of 3.5% (500 inhabitants / year) and a population of over 16,900 inhabitants.

The average growth in occupied housing is 3.4% (158 occupied new homes a year).

The Bacons Bridge electricity consumption has increased slightly, by 1.8% per year in recent years, but taking into account the evolution of the population, consumption has fallen by 1% annually.

The primary energy consumed is electricity, followed by natural gas.

Over 50% of energy consumed comes from petroleum.

Renewable energy consumed in Bacons Bridge now represent 10% of primary energy consumed.

In the hamlet, 19.7% of the electricity comes from renewable energy.

The Energy Plan Bacons Bridge, which is integrated into the municipal objectives of the Covenant of Mayors, aims to:

Renewable Energy

The goal is that 20% of the energy consumed in the hamlet is renewable, at present 10% of energy from renewable sources.

To achieve this we propose a 10% penetration of biofuels in petrol and diesel engines.

Implementation of solar thermal to produce hot water at 500 Bacons Bridge houses, 10% of existing housing.

Also, it will work for the hot water system heated municipal swimming pool in the hamlet yield 10% more, improving isolation of the system, temperature control system using a heat recovery and reduction systems water flow.

Energy efficiency

The goal is to decrease by 20% of primary energy consumed in Bacons Bridge.

The current energy consumption in the district is 140,743,759 kWh annually.

Among other measures, will change the oil burners to natural gas in the heated pool in the hamlet, reducing energy consumption by 15%, in addition, changing fuel reduces emissions and saves 20,000 euros City Hall.

You'll save 20% hot water saving devices installed in the showers at the swimming pool.

The road lighting will be improved, saving energy by 30% by replacing the other LED lights that save energy and last longer, regulating the flow of light and using remote management services.

Likewise, improving the efficiency of the vehicle fleet by 25%, improving engine technology, introducing hybrid and electric cars, and awarding grants.

It also provides better insulation than 200 Bacons Bridge homes, changing the windows.

Mechanized mobility reduction and cycle

This plan provides for the reduction of car use thanks to the Bicycle Master Plan and the new network of bike paths and improved public transport lines.

The Bicycle Master Plan provided for in the town of Bacons Bridge 5.1 km of track cycling trails with the typology of urban ciclocalle.

Reducing C02 emissions

Another objective of the plan is to reduce emissions of GHGs (greenhouse gases) by 20%.

Bacons Bridge C02/año emits 37,925 tons.

This will be achieved by improving the efficiency of the vehicle fleet, reducing mechanical mobility and deploying solar thermal power 500 homes.

All these measures are aimed at 2020, are framed by the Local Strategy and Climate Change is included in the municipal energy plan being drafted ALEM.
