Overhaul four crossings to improve road safety (23/12/2009)

Murcia City Council carried out work for the reform of four major crossings in El Palmar, Espinardo, The Pool and the Industrial Park West with the aim of improving road safety for drivers and pedestrians.

The Governing Board today approved the explanatory memoranda of these projects presented for funding to the State Fund for Employment and Local Sustainability.

In El Palmar works shall take place at the intersection of the MU-422 (Avenida Primero de Mayo), with the main streets of El Palmar, Los Rosales Avenue and Avenida de Las Palmeras.

Currently there is a level crossing with traffic lights and driving at high speed in this area.

The occupancy rate is low at this intersection during peak hours, making it possible to rearrange the crossover setting another system to slow down traffic and eliminate the traffic lights.

The works are aimed at forcing traffic to slow down, rearranging the circulation.

Three lanes are planned four meters each with a meter inside shoulder, and shoulder safety outside two feet.

These works will allow easy turning of large vehicles such as buses, garbage trucks, concrete mixers and emergency vehicles.

Lead time is 3 months, the investment of 528,422 euros and is expected to work 8 people in the works.

In Espinardo is working on the road crossing the Trail Espinardo Granada (section access to the A-30) with avenues Miguel de Cervantes, Teniente Montesinos and another section of the Path of Granada.

The distribution of the road is very complex and that at this junction five streets come together, allowing all movements.

This distribution generates many conflicts, so it is necessary to use traffic lights.

In addition, traffic flow is very high, especially at peak times.

The envisaged solution is to separate the points of conflict and builds three lanes to four meters each interior shoulder of a meter, and external shoulder feet up.

These works will allow easy turning of large vehicles such as buses, garbage trucks, concrete mixers and emergency vehicles.

This work will have a lead time of 3 months, a budget of 285,276 euros and is expected to employ 8 people.

In The Pool works shall take place at the junction between the MU-302 road to El Palmar La Alberca, with the MU-422, Avenida Primero de Mayo, is currently commanded a level crossing with traffic lights.

The MU-422 has two lanes in each direction, unfolding to four, with two front and two-lane access from the MU-422 MU-302, towards La Alberca.

This arrangement facilitates the speed at the extent of lanes and good visibility, with the danger involved.

The occupancy rate of this crossing is low.

This crossing will be reformed in order to force the traffic to reduce speed, movement and rearranging the building three lanes to four meters each interior shoulder of a meter, and external shoulder feet up.

These works will allow easy turning of large vehicles such as buses, garbage trucks, concrete mixers and emergency vehicles.

The current landscape keeps bowling settling colors, artificial grass and trees, with the aim of saving water and maintenance is nil.

The budget is 265,910 euros and the execution time of 3 months.

Are expected to work 8 people.

The latest project will take place on Main Avenue West Industrial Park (San Ginés), an avenue which has three miles long, with a central boulevard and two lanes in each direction.

A confluence of this great avenue other and orthogonal cross, which have become hot spots as the pierce or make turns occur and accident situations.

Furthermore, the geometric design of the Avenue is a tendency to reach high speeds, despite the existing signage.

The budget is 158,408 euros, with a deadline of two months and will employ eight people.
