ANSE says "command to stop the illegal extraction of gravel from the volcano after allegations Zeneta ANSE" (22/12/2009)

Three complaints in a month and a call to the office of Director have been necessary to stop the illegal extraction of gravel from the volcano known as Cabezo protected Black from Zeneta (Murcia).

ANSE's view, it is necessary that the Director José Ballesta debug the appropriate responsibilities and that damages are irreparable.

Zeneta volcano is a volcanic relief of extraordinary value located in the town of Murcia near the provincial boundary with Alicante.

This enclave is protected by the General Plan of Murcia Natural Area (Area of ecological sensitivity) and as sites of geological interest.

Also, the black heads of Zeneta has been proposed as a Natural Monument by the Autonomous Community of Murcia.

In addition, the rocks that make up are included in Annex VIII of the State Law 42/2007 as "globally significant geological contexts." Finally recognizing his extraordinary values petrological, Zeneta volcano has recently been included among the duty geological interest of Spain's most important global inventory within GEOSITES Project, sponsored by UNESCO.

On November 23, 2009, ANSE sent a complaint to various authorities warning that he was running an illegal quarry in the Black-Zeneta Cabezo.

Association members had found that the extracted materials were being illegally used in the construction of the highway Santomera-San Javier, which was reported to the Highways Agency as a promoter of the work, by giving written notice, phone call and e-mail.

Subsequently submitted two claims more (4 and 14 December) warning of the irreversible destruction of this protected area.

Moreover, ASEAN has been informed these days that the association had presented earlier ADESGA (July 2009) complaints to the Ministry of Public Works for the same offense.

However, it was not until yesterday, and after discussion with the Head of Cabinet of the Minister, when the Director General of Highways has issued stay order immediate procurement of that irregular quarry companies and awarded PLOD CHM (UTE Zenete).

On the other hand, the DG of Mines has also issued order immediate cessation of mining.

ANSE regrets that passivity and slowness of the authorities involved (DG of Mines, Directorate General of Roads, DG Natural Heritage and Biodiversity and DG of Planning, Evaluation and Environmental Control) and in particular the Ministry of Public Works, has allowed the destruction serious and irreversible Cabezo much of the Black-Zeneta: a volcano protected international interest over gravel become a public work.

Given the seriousness of the facts, publicly asked the Chief Executive ANSE José Ballesta identify responsibilities in Counseling and companies awarded for having allowed this irregularity for so long (the highway works are nearing completion).
