IU + LV de Murcia: Social Welfare budget "too many holes left unfilled" (17/12/2009)

Councillor of the United Left + The Greens in the city of Murcia, Esther Herguedas, said today that the budget of the Department of Social Welfare, Gender Equality Policies and Citizenship, 2010 "too many holes left unfilled and will not serve to strengthen social policies. "

Herguedas has indicated that such policies should be a main focus in the municipal work, especially in the current economic context, while team has accused the government of acting "continuity" in terms of basic services such as telecare, home care and older and women's centers.

It also underlined the lack of investment policy of equality for women, including employment and training measures and the establishment of conciliation centers and centers for elderly and dependent.

He highlighted that the budget reduction mainly affects charitable contributions and grants to the associations with which the council works, which "will have its impact on the type of service provided by these organizations and the working conditions of workers."

It has also ensured that political participation "does not exist either in practice or in the budget", and in this regard has stated that "despite the recommendations of bodies, the session is more impermeable and opaque, and close more citizen participation, unless it is controlled by the government team.
