María Dolores Abellon: "Attention to elderly, disabled, and equality policies will be affected by the insensitivity of the PP" (17/12/2009)

Councilwoman Maria Dolores Abellon PSOE claims that the budget for Social Welfare does not contribute to achieving equality of opportunity, is apathetic to the disabled, does not improve care for the elderly and dependent or policy provides for citizen participation in the municipality.

The socialist mayor María Dolores Abellon complaint, once again, the council of Pelegrín still doing the same things when making a budget of continuity, lack of imagination and no proposals to achieve social welfare and equality of Murcia and Murcia .

"The municipal PP again shows a total insensitivity regarding the elderly and dependent care, equality policies, the disabled and citizen participation," reiterates Abellon.

Equal budget cuts

Regarding this matter, "says the mayor of the PSOE-municipal accounts will not result in the achievement of equal opportunities for Murcia and Murcia, as the budget for this is reduced.

There is nothing on the Equality Plan that the PP has not been able to put in place after many years of government there is no improvement of training in equality, nothing to promote reconciliation of work and family life with the creation of child care centers or public reconciliation, nor increase the items to combat gender violence, nor is the framework for actions to be carried out from all the departments, through a comprehensive plan against gender violence.

Disabled

In the municipal budget, continues Abellon-nothing new is collected on the disabled, so it will follow the same municipal apathy in recent years.

Elderly and dependent

The PSOE Councillor also claims that in 2010 the elderly and dependent will not satisfy their needs, as the current expenditure budget is the brain-which has dragged on for years, without ideas, new policies and actions.

Only increase, "recalls Abellon, the budget for home help, as it has done in recent years, thanks to the efforts of the Government of Spain has earmarked funds to strengthen the Dependency Law, through CARM, to meet and expand the catalog of the care system.

Not eliminate the waiting list

With this budget, the municipal PP continue without a defined project to improve care and welfare of this group and, of course, not eliminate the waiting list of more than 2,000 people to the home help service, or expanded the number of hours that many users need, and improve the working conditions of the auxiliary support at home that, at present, are very poorly paid, or will improve respite care and home meals that will be affected by the cuts on items that are placed from 30 to 40%.

Investment stops

According to the mayor of the PSOE, investments in this council or feel or suffer because the charge of Social Welfare does not complicate life and passed the same budget year to year.

Over 85% of 2008 investment budget was not spent and went on to join the 2009, this year has been spent and not going to join the 2010.

"Meanwhile repeat the refurbishment, extension and construction of senior centers without ever running, as is the case of nursing homes in San Jose de la Vega, Lobosillo, Barrio El Progreso, among others," Abellon says,

Civic Engagement

As for citizen participation underscored there are no policies for citizen participation in the municipality, or citizens or for elected office for Murcia.
