Murcia University today opened the new headquarters of the Sports Medicine Center, which will also house the offices of Sports Activities Service (ODS).
The University has renovated the old facilities of the Centre, increasing its space by 40%, making it possible to expand the medical services the institution provides to athletes and install the new units of SAD.
The new center has specialized emergency rooms, physiology, physiotherapy, ultrasound, motor function and X-ray and a laboratory of force, in addition to spaces dedicated to waiting rooms, reception and changing rooms, while also prepared to receive and care for disabled athletes.
All rooms have been equipped with modern medical and sports, which make it landmark in the Region of Murcia.
The new building, financed by the University and the Autonomous Region is part of the remodeling project of the Campus Sports Campus Espinardo, which is in process for three years and already implemented two phases.
The first involved the complete renovation of the outdoor sports areas, the reform of the sports and tennis, as well as construction of new changing rooms to service these facilities.
The second phase included the adequacy of a gym more than 400 square meters, construction of a new point of information and control at the entrance of the premises and the redevelopment of access to sports facilities.
The next phases will include the reform of the areas covered (sports hall and multipurpose building) and installation of paddle and covered new areas for sports.
The inauguration of the new Sports Medicine Center attended the rector, José Antonio Cobacho, the director general of Sport regional government, Antonio Peñalver, the rector of University Extension, Francisco Guillermo Diaz, and the Vice Chancellor for Business and Infrastructure, Antonio Calvo- Flores.
