PSOE: "The red palm weevil is taking control of the palm trees in the town" (13/12/2009)

Councilman José Antonio García Baños PSOE denounced the inaction of the Department of Environment in controlling this pest and not consistently applied a policy to prevent and control the palms of both public and private ones

The Socialist councilor Jose Antonio Garcia Baños says that "there is a widespread silence from the local and regional government on the damage that is causing the red palm weevil palm municipal census, is not to say, much less that this death is controlled "

From time to time, "continues Garcia Baños-we learned that palm trees have disappeared by the action of the weevil and it usually has already spread to other individuals.

Thus, says the mayor of the PSOE, "the city of Murcia should once and for all take seriously this plague that threatens to decimate our park of palm trees."

Both palms own Hall, and private - García Baños-stresses must be controlled from the Department of Environment, as the red palm weevil does not distinguish by owners in their quest predator, and that is when a neighbor comes to the aid request to have some palm attack, since the administration tells you that is unique and therefore it solves it.

"Among the red palm weevil and the Department of Environment, denouncing the socialist councilor have it worse every day our palm trees in their environment.

Therefore suggests that the PP García Baños municipal systematically apply a policy of prevention and control, he insists, both for public palm to private.

"It is not the first time I urge the council of the Environment and its director, Adela Martinez Cacho, to act efficiently and without dropping balls out.

Let us hope that we welcome effective action, before the red palm weevil is done with total control of the palms of our town, "he concludes.
