Environment and Urban Quality is committed to a sustainable environment with green areas for the whole family and the promotion of cycling (11/12/2009)

In 2010 it will implement the Bicycle Master Plan and the Office of the Bicycle

The thousand hectares of forest are municipal green lung to combat climate change

The Department of Environment and Urban Quality, who runs Adela Martinez-Cacho, bet on 2010 for a sustainable city with a special role of green areas, the municipal forest cover to combat climate change, promoting renewable energy and cycling.

The planned budget for 2010 is EUR 12,832,256, showing a decrease of 2% over 2009 (13,084,043 euros).

Investments are held in relation to last year.

The Department of Environment and Urban Quality drives the gardens and green areas as convivial public spaces where citizens can carry out activities in their spare time.

The gardens of the town has a total of 2,058 units installed in 504 children's play areas, 20% more than in 2008.

In 2010 all the gardens will gerontogimnasia devices, fulfilling the demands of the residents.

The gardens of neighborhoods and districts now have 349 units of gerontogimnasia games, whereas in 2008 only had 34.

The effort by the Department of Adela Martinez-Cache in this regard is important to understand that these spaces should be suitable for young and old will enjoy improving the quality of life of citizens.

The green areas are a priority for the Department of Environment and Urban Quality.

The municipality has 2.7 million square meters of green areas and gardens.

During this year there have been actions in 47 gardens in the municipality.

The budget for 2010 allocated a 920,000-euro (380,000 in neighborhoods of Murcia and 540,000 euros for the parishes) for the comprehensive rehabilitation of gardens and building new parks.

Moreover, year after year increases the number of gardens in the municipality.

Maintain and monitor the 2.7 million square meters of green areas represent a total investment of over 5.8 million euros.

The City Council is working to convert green areas multifunctional sustainable gardens, those people living in children's playgrounds in gerontogimnasia, shaded areas and rest.

All works are carried out in the garden are made according to sustainability criteria such as installing solar pergolas, LED lamps, the use of recycled materials in the enclosure of the gardens, use of recycled material in the floor of the playing fields the gardens, etc.

The municipality of Murcia city is moving towards a low carbon model (Local Strategy Against Climate Change), preserving and improving the forest areas are large green spaces in the city.

At the same time it advocates the development of renewable energy (Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change Murcia-ALEM-) and mobility to reduce pollution promoting bicycle use (implementation of Master Plan Bike), implementing strategies to involve citizens in the fight against climate change and energy conservation.

Also, working on efficient management of inert waste (333,957 tonnes of inert treated in 2009) to allocate 500,000 euros.

The bike will be the main attraction in 2010 with an investment of 670,000 euros.

The City will implement the Bicycle Master Plan and opened the Office of the bike.

Also, be extended to 86 kilometers of track cycling trails that already exist in the municipality and will continue working to create new infrastructure and maintaining existing ones.

Important to combat climate change is the maintenance and conservation of forests available to the City Council.

In the town there are thousands of hectares (10 million square meters) of local woodland, found mainly in the Majal Blanco (Torre Guil) and in the Sierras de Altaona and Escalona.

It is the green lung of the town for the fight against climate change because it is a sink of CO2.

To maintain this forest cover, monitoring, removal of architectural barriers and the promotion of outdoor activities and guided tours will be allocated about 300,000 euros.

The Department led by Adela Martinez-Cache also fight against an invisible form of pollution, which is the noise.

In 2010, 100,000 euros will be invested to complete the noise map of parishes and increased controls on noise.

The works will begin next year to build the first solar farms in the municipality, located in Sucina, Gea and Truyols and Los Martínez del Puerto, pillars in the measures adopted in the Local Strategy Against Climate Change.

From the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change Murcia (ALEM) will work in 2010 to complete the local energy plan in compliance with the commitment of the Covenant of Mayors.

In addition, continue to promote renewable energy and improving energy efficiency and continue the subsidies to private lines.
