The spokesman of the President of IU in the Region of Murcia, Esther Herguedas, said today that citizen action has been a determining factor for the conservation of archaeological remains found in the garden of San Esteban.
Herguedas was speaking after meeting the president of the Region of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, has decided against building a parking area by its incompatibility with the conservation of the site.
Has called for "caution" to the public as Valcárcel statements "are personal, so you have to wait until there is an institutional confirmation of the cessation of work on the park and preservation 'in situ' findings ".
He assured that the president of the regional executive "has reacted too late," said while the words of Valcárcel demonstrate the "unreasonableness" of the proposed relocation of the archaeological remains of incompatibility with the building of a park.
It has also emphasized the need to open a public participation process which involved technical experts to decide on the best way to preserve the remains and its value as a cultural reference of Murcia.
