The nature and animal park Terra Natura Murcia has begun a breeding program to get the captive breeding of the European lynx (Lynx lynx).

Those responsible for the complex have bought two copies, one female and one male of five years of age, to try to have children within a year.

With this action, Murcia facilities are a step in the strategy they have set to try to strengthen the breeding of the three large carnivores in the Iberian Peninsula (the bear, wolf and lynx), before the end of 2010.

So far, it has already made the reproduction of the Iberian bears and has created a breeding group of wolves with the aim of the short term can have offspring.

These lynx, 20 and 30 kilos respectively, are from the Safari Vergel de Alicante and have been granted indefinitely.

Veterinarians at Terra Natura Murcia have developed a specially configured space for this kind of 140 square meters, which is separated into two areas linked by an internal passageway to facilitate monitoring the professional team of the reproduction process and subsequent delivery.

Currently four species of lynx in the world, the Iberian lynx is considered the world's most endangered cat, and that fewer than 150 copies.

After this, from the Pyrenees to the rest of Europe, predominantly European lynx is not subject to such a serious state of conservation as the Iberian, but is protected by existing legislation.

This protection has resulted in fact in the development of reintroduction plans in Germany and France.

The park keepers are confident that the female lynx into heat from January to March and the expected pregnancy is conceived.

If the issue becomes pregnant will have to spend about 65 to 70 days gestation to conclude successfully.

Typically, these animals tend to have at every delivery of one to five offspring.
