Since 1992, has been commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which has served to promote understanding of disability issues, to generate measures that contribute to the dignity, rights and welfare of persons with disabilities and raise awareness in society at large about the needs of these people in every field of life, political, social, economic and cultural.
This day aims to raise awareness about the difficulties these people have to face to exercise their full participation in community and on an equal basis as other citizens.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is the right time for, from the City of Murcia, affirm our firm commitment to continuing and improving the support that has been provided to the various entities, working with people with disabilities and their families.
We consider it necessary to reconfirm our commitment to seek effective and viable solutions to help this group in order to build together a society that rises as a place for equal opportunities.
With these premises, and coinciding with this day of December 3, we consider it necessary to state the following:
FIRST .- The International Day of Disabled Persons should serve to reflect on the need for progress in improved support for people with disabilities and their families, as well as the entities that represent them.
It is essential to reiterate our continued willingness to pursue the necessary measures to facilitate the full integration of persons with disabilities in social and working world, and thereby improve the quality of life and their families.
Therefore, from the city of Murcia, we uphold this commitment with four main topics:
Bringing the Disabled Peoples Organisations to all citizens, in order to achieve greater awareness and sensitize all Murcia and Murcia on the reality of these people.
The City of Murcia is thus committed to continue supporting the various entities in the dissemination of its activities to raise awareness about the different types of disabilities, relying on the activities that bring people with disabilities to rest of the population.
Inform and advise the general population of the various resources, services and activities offered by the different entities.
Continue the support that has been provided to the various entities of People with Disabilities, through cooperation agreements and public calls for subsidies, on the one hand, and by the Bureau of work on disability, on the other.
The latter is to establish a meeting between the City and these entities, constituting over the years several working commissions which have addressed different issues of interest proposed by Banks and always for the benefit and in favor of people with whom they work.
From City of Murcia, we will continue to follow up these actions to provide the means and resources to various entities, to improve their services and increase the quantity and quality of its activities at the service of Persons with Disabilities and their families.
Develop actions for different entities and the group of people with whom they work, who are specifically:
Provide better access to the labor market, assessing and studying the possibility of creating reservation of seats in the public job.
Training activities aimed at providing more and better training in the field of disability (volunteers, professionals ...).
SECOND .- In this European Year dedicated to the creativity and innovation, the City Council of Murcia, the Entities are encouraged to develop their creativity not only to tackling new projects, but also take advantage of the "current situation" to use the new tool and Web for Supreme People with Disabilities "that the City Council of Murcia we made available last July.
Being aware of the needs and challenges that cut across entities in obtaining resources, has created this space as a means of communication so that they can share and optimize resources and to facilitate access of all citizens to information benefits and services in the disability field developed in the various public
As a representative of the City Council and all Murcia and Murcia, I believe that the key to raising public awareness of the obstacles that prevent the normal development of people with disabilities, is the joint work between the various entities and public administrations .
Hence, for the first time in the year 2009, the City of Murcia, has wanted to offer Institutions for People with Disabilities, a week (from 29 November to 5 December) to raise awareness and sensitize the population on the various problems that affect these people, resources and services available, and provide space for the development of various activities as a way of approaching and meeting all / as in those days.
