The UCAM inaugurates National Conference on Nutrition and Physical Activity Therapeutic (20/11/2009)

San Antonio Catholic University (UCAM) inaugurated this morning the National Conference on Therapeutic Nutrition and Physical Activity.

The symposium will be held tomorrow on the campus of Jeronimos.

The conference is particularly aimed at professionals in physiotherapy, CAFD, nutritionists, and general practitioners and students in the field of health.

The event coordinator, Dr. José Antonio Villegas, explained that "the aim is to present the latest advances in physical activity as an adjunct to treatment of diseases in the context of an adequate diet."

The coordinator of the Conference, and director of the Exercise Physiology Department of the UCAM, José Antonio Villegas, stressed that "given the scientific development of this knowledge, this conference UCAM place the national frontline treatment under the through physical activity of various diseases. "

During his speech, research professor at National Research Council, Ignacio Torres, has stressed that "we should exercise regularly because it is proven scientifically that increases the formation of new neurons, and also protects the brain from injury and the same conditions would enhance the recovery of brain damage. "

For his part, Professor of Nutrition Diploma UCAM, José María Xandri, has focused on the latest developments in Diet Therapy, "by which is meant to help the treatment and prevention of various diseases by a thorough knowledge of action of nutrients from a diet. "

Professor of Science and Food Technology of the UCAM, Antonio Soler, has lectured on physical activity and health in people with Down syndrome.

In this regard, he noted that "to increase the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities, attention must be offered under the concept multidisciplinary approach, involving professionals in the areas of education and health."

The director of the Postgraduate Diploma in Exercise, Nutrition and Health, Faculty of Medicine, University of Chile, Carlos Saavedra, gave a presentation on "The molecular adaptations to exercise and its role in the prevention and treatment of modern chronic diseases" .

This afternoon, starting at 16.30 hours, the professor of Exercise Physiology of the UCAM, José Antonio Villegas, and Professor of Physiology at the University of Extremadura, Eduardo Ortega, will lecture on the relationship between physical activity and fibromyalgia and the anthropological foundations of nutrition and physical activity, among other issues.
