Socialist spokeswoman Maria Jose Alarcon expressed his great satisfaction following official confirmation by the Directorate General of Fine Arts and Cultural Assets of the archaeological importance of the findings in San Esteban and the consequent enhancement.
"Murcia will be able to have a significant archaeological area that will allow us to know our medieval past and enjoy our rich heritage," he said.
Alarcon, who stressed the important work being done by archaeologists in the area, states that "the decision to retain a significant portion of these remains shows that it was strictly true all we've been arguing over this time."
"From the beginning of this process fiercely defended its value, and the need to empower them to Murcia to continue generating wealth and employment on the basis of their own history."
Similarly, the Socialist spokesman hoped that all decisions made from now on this subject are appropriate for both maintenance and for the enhancement of the archaeological area of San Esteban.
