Manifest against gender violence (17/11/2009)

Women's Centers of town together to eradicate violence against women and undertake activities such as reading a manifesto, to raise awareness of the need to report situations of abuse against women.

The Councillor for Social Welfare Policy and Equality, María del Carmen Pelegrin, participated this afternoon in the activities at the Center for Women's Vistabella.

Pelegrín recalled that the area of Women's Council has served 315 women so far this year, performing more than 4,400 interventions related to gender violence.

Nine women, 14 minors, have been taken to the county shelter and 25 women, 33 minors, has been moved to other shelters in the region.

In addition, over 220 have been issued restraining orders.

The City Council stressed the importance of the whole society denounces situations of abuse and has emphasized the work of the Centers for Women, serving women and report the proceedings to continue.

Pelegrin said that during November the Centers for Women made speeches, panel discussions and forums to raise awareness of the responsibility not to allow abuses of men over women.

The Women's Center has made this afternoon Vistabella a chat, read a manifesto against male violence and participated in a march to the Plaza de los Patos with lit white candles to show their rejection of violence against women.
