"The women, together we will be more protected from male violence enough!" (13/11/2009)

The Welfare Department has organized an extensive program of activities to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women

The Department of Social Welfare, Gender Equality Policies and Citizenship, directed by Maria del Carmen Pelegrin, it is proposed that this concern and rejection of violence against women is visible in every corner of the city of Murcia, which is why , has organized an extensive program of activities for women in the centers of the municipality as a whole community.

"The Center for Women rejects and denounces violence sexist" and "Women, together we will be more protected from male violence enough!" Are the slogans that hang from the facades of the women's centers of Murcia, as the objective of the Department is to mobilize the entire town and share with everyone.

The proposed activities for the various women's centers in the municipality are:

Development and reading of manifestos and data communication about the situation of violence against women, through panels or oral statements in the various workshops and activities taking place in partnerships and Women's Centers throughout the month of November.

Preparation and placement of signs on the facades of the headquarters of the association with slogans.

Organization of roundtables aimed at both partners as family, friends, community, for which there will be EMAVI (Municipal Equipment attention to the violence of the Women's Section).

Making painting competitions aimed at children or women on male violence.

Poetry with themes relating to violence.

Making poster competitions.

Watching movies is its theme of violence, with subsequent symposium.

Briefings on specialist resources dealing with this problem.

Day imposition of white ribbons (accepted symbol of rejection of violence) in the street.

Also from the Department of Social Welfare has developed the "Workshops for the prevention of gender violence", the result of an agreement between the Fund and the Mediterranean Institute for Women in the Region of Murcia, during this year have conducted 82 workshops, aimed at Women's Centres and Associations of all neighborhoods and districts.

The purpose of this program is to sensitize, revealing the causes and consequences of violence, to prevent and eradicate it.

On the other hand, from the Department of Social Welfare, Gender Equality Policies and Citizenship of the City of Murcia to commemorate the International Day for Eradication will violence against women, are going to do the following activities to raise awareness, inform and educate the public and specific groups.

November 24.

Opening the information booth on prevention resources and attention to gender violence, the Plaza de Santo Domingo, at 11:30.

Opening of photo exhibition on domestic violence conducted by the students of the School of Art, Murcia, in the municipal center "El Carmen", at 18 hours.

25th November.

Institutional event "Celebrating the International Day for the Eradication of violence against women."

Reading the manifesto.

Institutional recognition to women's centers.

Also given a special certificate of appreciation to all the centers of the Women of the municipality, for his work on behalf of women and prevention of gender violence.

Take place in the Plenary Hall of the City of Murcia, at 18:00.

"Concentration of citizens and human chain" in the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga, at 19:00.

November 26.

- Music concert organized by the Institute for Women in the Region of Murcia, with the slogan: "What did you say no to gender violence" in the Murcia Park, at 21: 00 pm.

This activity is targeted to the entire population and is especially recommended for young people.

It has set up a website to collect the views of all interested people to say no to gender violence.

Training and awareness

Moreover, and as was the priority for the Department in recent years, targeted training and awareness activities to young people, considering that prevention requires the involvement of all systems and in particular the education system.

Thus we continue to work with secondary school teachers (Professor Javier Ortega) in conducting the training day aimed at students of IES in our City, which will develop from 17 to 20 November in the Hall of City Hall Annex Building, from 10 am to 12:30 pm.
