More than 600 students from schools in the city planted 2,000 pine trees in the industrial West (12/11/2009)

More than 600 students and 20 schools in the municipality of Murcia voluntary associations two thousand pines planted in the industrial West in the campaign "Plant for the Planet, Plant for Murcia ', launched by the Department of Environment and Quality Urbana through the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change (ALEM).

The Councillor for Environment and Urban Quality, Adela Martinez-Cache, this morning has planted 150 trees along San Pablo CEIP students to kick out of this initiative will continue on 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 November.

The campaign "Plant for the Planet, Plant for Murcia 'was launched last fall with great success and continues this year with the goal of planting a total of 12,000 trees in the city during the coming years.

Planting is done in a municipal lot next to Fire Station Industrial Estate West and planted pine species such as Aleppo pine, olive and carob trees, donated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water.

CEIP school students Our Lady of Bethlehem, Tornel CEIP José Martínez, Pedro Martínez Chacas IEPC, IEPC River Segura, La Milagrosa, IES Fleet, CEIP Nicolás de las Peñas, María Maroto CEIP CEIP Cierva Peñafiel and plant trees.

The plantations will be held from 9.00 to 12.00.

The City provides transportation to all participants from the school to the place of the plantation.

This activity aims to:

Raising the value of natural resources

Develop active behavior in children and young people of the municipality with respect to the Environment

Create an urban forest because the trees are an important part of our nature, playing a key role in the sustainability of urban

Murcia City Council joined the initiative "Plant for the Planet: Billion campaign of trees' United Nations, devised by the Nobel Peace Prize 2004 Wangari Maathai, founder of the Green Belt Movement in Kenya.

This proposal aims to individuals, communities, businesses, industries, organizations, administrations and governments to commit to planting trees for planting a billion trees worldwide each year.
