A step towards the implementation of the Bicycle Master Plan (02/11/2009)

This creates a grid of 490 km of track cycling trails throughout the municipality

The working group of the Bicycle Master Plan was held this morning for a meeting to further progress in this project that aims to make cycling a daily urban transport mode.

The implementation of the plan will allow the use of bicycles in the city as an element of mobility, leisure and health is a reality.

At the meeting held at City Hall and chaired by Councillor for Environment and Urban Quality, Adela Martinez-cache, presented the Master Plan document which is working after including the views of the associations and organizations are part of the working group as agreed at its meeting in July, which opened the deadline for suggestions.

It also studies the design of the track cycling trails and criteria will be considered for implementation.

Today, before starting the Bicycle Master Plan, there are 86.3 km of track cycling trails executed and implemented.

The Plan provides for the establishment of 255.4 km of track cycling trails throughout the town, creating a net total of 490 km of track cycling trails among those executed, which are being built and proposed.

The Master Plan provides for the installation of 615 points with 7,150 bicycle parking spaces.

There are now 26 points from parking in the city.

This year has been implemented or are ongoing projects:

-Directions to Contraparada cyclist, by the Butte River

-Way cyclable in Juan Carlos I and Juan de Borbón

Track Cycling Master-in variant of the Green Sangonera

Cycling Master-Way in the North Coast and South Coast

-Avenida de los Pinos

-Alfonso Palazón Clemares

Rail-bike-and his connection universities including

Via Amable-1, and executed

Via Amable, 2 and 3, in the bidding process

Via Amable, 4 and 5, prepared the draft

The objectives of the Bicycle Master Plan are:

-To promote sustainable patterns of mobility through cycling

-Build a network of cycling trails routes.

-Promote use of bicycles as a means of transport in movement patterns.

-To facilitate public access to the bike rental and bicycle parking systems

-Ensure the safety of bicycle users and pedestrians

-Promote intermodality of public transport, cycling and pedestrian

-Prepare proposals for the integration of bicycle spaces for future urban developments.

The Working Group of the Bicycle Master Plan, which had already held seven meetings, involving officials of the Association Walking Green Ecologist, University of Murcia, Murcia en Bici, Mapfre Cultural Association Torreagüera Sports MTB & ROAD, Bicycle Federation Murcia, School of Public Works Engineers, Environmental Health Unit HUV Arrixaca, Local Youth Council of Murcia, Official College of Architects of Murcia, Bicimur, Adesga, Neighborhood Association of La Alberca, UCAM, College of Engineering Roads, Federation of Neighbourhood Associations of the Municipality, Murcia Logistics Association, and representatives from the departments of Planning, Environment and Urban Quality, Sports, Youth, Public Roads, Traffic municipal service and Local Agency Energy and Climate Change Murcia (ALEM).
