A bathhouse National Geographic Institute and the House of the map representing the Government Delegation in the XXIV Murcia Book Fair (29/10/2009)

The government delegate in Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, and the Head of the Department of Development, Peñarrubia Diego, this morning visited the booth set up by the House of the map and the National Center for Geographic Information (CNIG) in the XXIV International Book Fair Murcia.

González Tovar reported that among the innovations presented in this edition features a DVD compilation of all clusters of the National Atlas of Spain, published between 1986 and 2008.

It has also highlighted the large influx of people who have visited the house these days, some of which have made first contact with these materials.

Also pointed out that the National Geographic Institute, through the Regional Service of Murcia and its House of the Map, has been participating with great success in all editions of the book fair in Murcia.

In fact, the Strategic Plan of the said Institute EXPOCART manages the service, which aims to develop policies for information disclosure and dissemination of its products by participating in fairs, exhibitions, technical seminars, conferences, etc.

In the house can access the current regional and national maps, among which is the recently published National Topographic Map 1:25.000 (MTN25) in both digital and printed version.

Also available are other maps that represent areas of interest, such as the Regional Park of Sierra Espuña, the Huerta de Murcia, Campo de Cartagena, etc.

In particular, the latter was awarded the International Cartographic Conference held in 2007 in Moscow, with the 2 nd prize for excellence in topographic maps.

The Government delegate explained that the National Center for Geographic Information (CNIG) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Works through the General Directorate of National Geographic Institute (IGN), whose aim is to produce, develop and distribute the work and publications geographical constraints that society demands.

In regard to the House Map, stressed that has a wide range of reproductive services ranging from aerial photographs and orthophotos from 1930 until the present time, digital mapping, historical documentation, etc.

In particular, it has a map library for querying mapping formed throughout the history of the Institute throughout the country.
