The University of Murcia reaches 2,612 researchers (29/09/2009)

The number of persons within a research group at the University of Murcia grew by more than 150 in one year and reached the 2612, as released today in presenting the results of the investigation of the educational institution 2008, held in the building of Convalescence.

The number of contracted predoctoral fellows and incorporated in that year is one of the highlights of the data presented today, which has gone from 280 to 328, to which must be added the postdoctoral position, with 5 additions in Ramón y Cajal Program and as many of the Juan de la Cierva.

The Vice Chancellor for Research, Juan María Vázquez, who appeared before the media flanked by their coordinators, Miguel and Gaspar Ros Motes, also referred to the chapter on projects and contracts and agreements.

The regional research project had a funding of 10.7 million euros in 2008, by 7.4 the previous year, nationals increased by 3 million euros, reaching the 27 international and received nearly 7 million.

Another most notable increases occurred in the number of contracts and agreements signed during 2008.

The University has signed 422 contracts on research, with a total of 16.7 million euros, representing an increase of nearly a hundred with the previous year, and 75 conventions.

As regards publications, the figures speak of 2,594 submissions, 212 books, 745 chapters of books, 1,892 articles, 176 theses and 535,444 articles derived from electronic journals.

As for technology-based companies, of the 13 counts with the University, 5 have been created this year, while ten new patents have been applied, which increases the number of patents registered to 107.

The managing director of the Seneca Foundation, Antonio González, addressed the dynamics of scientific activity in the Region and the University of Murcia in particular, involved in 75% of regional contracts for R & D and 70% publications with international visibility.

The rector, José Antonio Cobacho, was pleased with the results, but said it must "continue to work to avoid falling into complacency and continue to use public funds in the best way possible."
