The family, school and basketball
Moncho Fernandez was born 40 years ago (19/09/1969) in Santiago de Compostela, a city that feels
“muy orgullosoâ€.
“Toda mi adolescencia e infancia la pasé allí, donde estudié la carrera de Geografía e Historia y trabajé y entrené hasta los 30 años, a los que me fui de entrenador ayudante a Gijón.
Desde aquel primer año como ayudante hasta hoy, casi han pasado 10 años†, afirma, mientras añade gozoso:

The fact is that a degree in Geography and History for
“quería ser profesor, que era lo que más me gustaba y después decidí que quería serlo de Historiaâ€.
“La historia es una de mis pasiones; me encanta.
Y bueno, estudié Geografía e Historia porque eran obligatorias las dos.
Si por mí fuera, sólo hubiera estudiado Historia†, asegura.
En lo que al deporte de la canasta se refiere, su flechazo con éste tuvo mucho que ver con que estudiara

"Close contact with many people who play basketball, we also made us practice it, play here at school mostly, but I soon realized my Poquita technical quality and my inability to play well in this sport, I was taken immediately to take the path of training.

A decade in professional basketball

En su trayectoria como profesional destaca considerablemente su etapa de tres años en el Villa de Los Barrios (del 2006 al 2009), una experiencia que no sólo le ha enriquecido a nivel personal, sino que además le ha supuesto su escaparate y lanzadera a la Liga ACB.

Pero, los anteriores equipos, la verdad es que también lo hicieron francamente bien, porque el equipo nunca había conseguido jugar play off, pero lo hicimos tres años de forma consecutiva†, expone.
No obstante, ese buen trabajo realizado en tierras gaditanas provocó que le denominaran “El Alquimistaâ€:
