The Mayor delivered the diplomas to the 130 young people have learned a trade in the professional qualification course taught by the City Council (25/09/2009)

There are many reasons that lead young Murcia each year choose to abandon formal education.

So the city of Murcia, with the collaboration of nearly a hundred companies in the municipality, organized since 1992 programs for these youth in order to provide training in a job that gives them access to employment.

This alternative is called the Initial Vocational Training Program and since its inception has provided 121 job profiles to about 1,600 youth.

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, today presided over the ceremony of accreditation for the 130 students who have completed the course -2008/2009-.

All of them have obtained the qualification of operators and assistants in nine trades: masonry, painting, electrical engineering and communications facilities, welding and steel construction, cooking, hairdressing, beauty-the first time that is given-, computers, plumbing, air conditioning and maintenance vehicles.

The closing ceremony of the course has also had the assistance of the councilman of Youth and Employment, María Dolores Sánchez, and the Director General of Vocational and Adult Education, Joaquín Buendía, and representatives of companies collaborating with program and the teaching staff and technical.

This scheme allows young people receive the necessary theoretical training in a trade and, in many cases, access to a first job, but can also choose to continue their studies they left behind, especially in intermediate vocational training.

The key to success lies in creating a real working environment, rules, schedules and security measures that are treated to a workplace.

The cost amounts to € 755,000, of which the Ministry of Education, Training and Employment provides € 528,000 and the city of Murcia, the rest.

In addition, hundreds of companies in the city this year collaborating with the city for students to acquire a first experience of learning in a real working context.

Young people who surpass the first year of Vocational Training, which takes place at the Center for Training and Employment Initiatives, may enroll in the second, which is taught only in secondary schools and aimed at obtaining the Certificate in ESO

As for the results of this course, it is noted that 154 students were enrolled of whom have completed the program and work practices made 130, obtaining the professional certificate 123.

Of young people who have done internships, 44 (34%) were received from recruitment companies.

In addition, 52% of students who have been certified has decided to continue his studies at the 2 nd year of Vocational Training Education Center High Ramón y Cajal, seeking to obtain the Diploma in ESO.
