Javier Marble defends Congress's tax measures Zapatero (23/09/2009)

Note from PSOE:

The national deputy for the Region of Murcia Javier Marble defended yesterday in the House of Representatives fiscal measures announced by President Rodríguez Zapatero, in a speech in plenary to respond to a motion of PP in this game meant a tax cut .

Marble explained that "within a period of economic crisis and falling revenue as the current one, if we want to maintain social policy must make an effort in fiscal policy."

In his view, "cutting taxes now is not an option if the aim is to ensure quality public services and an effective welfare state."

Murcia deputy criticized the Popular Party's motion because "talk to streamline spending, pro hide what is a policy antisocial, 'playing' spending in health, pensions, scholarships, unemployment benefits, and depending on infrastructure. "

Solidarity

Javier Marmol said in his speech that "most citizens in this country believe in solidarity," and that "the most to are willing to make an effort" to unemployed and families most in need with social policies to continue increasing spending on grants, benefits for dependents, pensions are increased, support for rental housing for youth, or unemployment benefits.

"I know you, ladies and gentlemen of the Popular Party, does not like it, because for you the policy of solidarity does not exist.

We believe in the welfare state and we will not end the crisis at the expense of the weakest, "he added.

The PP raised taxes and lowered them PSOE

Javier Marble recalled in his turn to speak, "In 2001, Aznar defended a tax increase" but based on European Union requirements, the regional financing and 11, "not by the increase in social spending."

And tax increases in 2002 raised the tax burden to 35.48% of GDP.

"In the next term, when they ruled the PSOE, lowered taxes, and also closed government accounts 2005, 2006 and 2007 with a surplus," said Marble.

Marble said the Socialist government fell 5 points in the corporate tax to help companies in their business and create jobs, and now will fall back to those SMEs to maintain employment.

Also lowered the personal income tax amounting to 9,000 million euros for families, and favored the so-called "mileuristas" as a result of the modification of free allowance.

Moreover, the Socialist deputy Murcia showed that, at present, the tax burden is 32.8% of GDP, "1.7% less than when ruled by the PP, and 6 points below the European average ".

He noted that when put popular examples such as Germany and France "forget to say that the tax burden in Spain is far from these countries, since, for example in Germany is about 39%."

"Therefore, the effort is now asking the Government of Spain will leave the tax burden to below the value it had under President Aznar and below the EU average."
