426 children have lost their place in public childcare facilities in the network of nursery schools in the municipality (09/09/2009)

The PSOE Councillor María Dolores Abellon PP denounced the inaction of the municipal building in public child seats.

"After 14 years of government still maintains the same 509 positions that already existed in 1995, while still putting on public land into private hands, thus promoting private business and hurting thousands of families who, besides not being able to reconcile their working lives and family can not afford the services of a private school, significantly more expensive than the public. "

Likewise, the population of the municipality, remember Abellon, has increased from 1995 to now, about 27%, while the number of new public child care spaces is zero, and there is a ratio of 1 space for every 30 children.

Denied 426 seats

For this new year, the Department of Education only available to families 246 seats, representing 48% of the total of 509 seats available than there are in the municipality

However, the socialist councilor points this year were 672 new applications being rejected 426, which represents almost 64% of total seats, a 4% more than last year.

Only 1 space per 30 children

This fact, "says Abellon-means that if we have approximately 16,000 children between 0 and 3 years in the municipality, there is only 1 space for every 30 children living in the municipality of Murcia.

In this sense, the PSOE mayor explained that the largest number of seats denied occurs in children between 2 to 3 years, a total of 196, while for 1 to 2 years are rejected 136, and for babies from 1 to 12 months 94.

The seven local primary schools located in districts and neighborhoods of the city show a similar behavior to the needs of public spaces, exceeding virtually all of positions 50% denied being the child's school Fuensanta, situated in the hamlet of St. James Mayor, which has more new applications, about 159 and, therefore, which brings together the highest percentage of denied seats, 74% of them.

Cost of private double

After the data provided, Abellon claims that, once again, many families have to choose from Murcia to other solutions (ask for help from family), it was impossible that their children are cared for in public primary schools and the difficulty of pay services existing private nurseries, whose prices have to be twice that of the public, on average.

PSOE proposal

The PSOE mayor recalled that at the last plenary in June, the Socialist Group requested the PP to adopt a special support system for the education of children of the municipality as a support to families who are going through a difficult economic situation, an initiative that was rejected by the PP.

In this regard, Abellon said that, despite continued denials by the mayor's house, the Socialists will continue to press for the launch a special system of aids to help parents in financial hardship or unemployment, may lead their children to private nurseries, since they do not have the necessary public places.

Deaf Ears

"The municipal PP continues to turn a deaf ear and do not plan to invest in basic services for the population of Murcia, despite repeated recommendations of the School Council and the fact that the Equality Act also includes promoting the education of the youngest to reconcile work and family, "he concludes.
