Murcia honors people who work in developing countries (08/09/2009)

· The events will take place from September 28 to October 3

• Up in 2008, the City has allocated over 7.9 billion euros to finance 264 projects in over 60 countries

Pay tribute to all those people who go to work in developing countries, either in projects of development cooperation or humanitarian aid, is the goal you want to reach the city of Murcia with Cooperating Day celebrations today , Sept. 8.

A memorial was approved unanimously by all political groups in the full City Council of Murcia, and held for the first time in the city of Murcia.

This day coincides with the date of the Millennium Declaration adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations and signed by 189 countries around the world.

This statement is to highlight, through eight general objectives, the commitment of these countries:

Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

Achieve universal primary education

Promote gender equality and empower women

Reduce child mortality

Improve maternal health

Combat HIV / AIDS, malaria and other diseases

Ensure the sustenance of the environment.

Develop a global partnership for development.

The projects we work covering such basic needs such as access to health care, education or social services, providing health care in doctors' offices, health programs or in construction of schools, and on the other hand working on the progress of these countries by promoting productive through small communities, cooperatives or microenterprises, or in projects to support municipalities.

Currently be found working approximately 50 Murcia and Murcia, divided primarily between Central and South America and Africa.

These people are linked to one of the ONG'D who regularly work with the city of Murcia, formed the basis of association, foundation or religious congregation.

Annually, the City works and collaborates with more than twenty NGOs.

Murcia City Council has organized a series of events, first, to honor donors from Murcia, and secondly, to publicize the important work of cooperation that is taking place from Murcia.

Thus, we have organized panel discussions, a photo exhibition and a show of cooperating to raise awareness of the assistance provided in these developing countries, and reflects the spirit of Murcia aid to those countries needy.

Municipal Finance

In this sense, we should underline that the City of Murcia since 1992 has provided more than 7.9 million euros in cooperation projects in developing countries.

Specifically, until last year, the City of Murcia has funded a total of 264 projects have been carried out in South America, Central, Africa, Europe and Asia, exceeding 60 countries.

The project areas in which we have worked are:

Care: 19%

Human Rights: 8%

Education for Development: 1%

Education: 24%

Emergency: 2%

Infrastructure: 32%

Production: 14%

Opening ceremony in the Plenary Hall of the City Council with a photo exhibition with pictures of the work produced in the developing countries.

29 September.

Round table "Cooperating Murcia.

The speakers will talk about various projects they are working.

September 30.

Roundtable on Cooperation and Gender ", dealing with one of the millennium goals: to promote gender equality and empower women.

1 October.

Roundtable University Cooperation. "

Participation of representatives from the universities of Murcia working on projects of cooperation.

2 and 3 October.

Fair Day Cooperating with ONG'D.
