detail of Murcia

The City of Murcia revenues plummet in 2008 while still hiring more debt. (25/08/2009)

Taxes on buildings and works (15 million euros, 37% less).

Navarro claims that the revenues from indirect taxes, mainly the so-called "tax on buildings and works" fall dramatically in 2008 compared to 2007.

In 2007 this tax to the city of Murcia reported revenues of 39,582,740 Euros, but in 2008, revenues declined for the same purpose, to 24,975,320.

Nearly 15 million Euros of difference and 37% less.

Municipal taxes (4 million Euros, 5.5% less)

Fees (traffic violations, fines urban, surcharges for urgency, etc) represented the City of Murcia 2008 revenues by 5.5% from the previous year.

It went from 76,430,438 euros in 2007 to 72,454,962 Euros in 2008.

Sale of Goods (2 and a half million Euros, 74% less)

Revenues of the City of Murcia for this purpose (sale of land, lots, plots) are also suffering a steep decline in 2008.

In fiscal 2008 the number was 874,796 while in 2007 the income amounted to 3,387,841, representing a 74% less.

Municipal debt (and growing).

The Socialist councilor Alfonso Navarro stresses that however what is alarming increases the debt that we Murcia City in 2008 contracted with credit institutions.

While in 2007 the city of Murcia contracted debts amounting to 17,895,000 Euros, of 2008 reached 36 million Euros, ie a

increase of 101%.

This fact raises very serious municipal debt to 230 million Euros.

Have been a lot of the initiatives to encourage the productive economy in the municipality, demanding government action team to improve management of public resources.

All have been rejected by the PP.

We are therefore faced with an economic model over, that has led to high indebtedness of all Murcia, for putting all your eggs in one basket, construction and urbanism and the basket has dropped.

From the Municipal Socialist Group, we believe that Murcia has the resources and potential to diversify their sources of wealth and thus we focus on the change of economic model that promotes economic activity in the city, neighborhoods and districts.
