The Department of Health of the City of Murcia, who heads Fulgencio Cervantes, performs periodic checks on consumers' taps, water tanks, sewage treatment plants, springs and wells to ensure the quality of drinking water for citizens in the municipality.
During the past year took over a thousand samples, whose parameters, in general, complied with the law.
The analysis part of the 'Control of water for human consumption', which develops the Municipal Laboratory since 1985.
The objective of this initiative is to ensure the quality of tap water consumers by systematic and constant.
Specifically, tests are performed in the distribution system, household water tanks and the University of Murcia, control of the treatment plant Contraparada, controlling deposits 10.000m3 control over capacity and control of springs and wells.
In the analysis carried out is controlled by the smell, taste, color, turbidity, conductivity, pH, ammonia, coliform bacteria, chlorine, etc.
In 2008 it took about 700 samples in about 400 points of the supply network (consumers' taps).
Points are chosen for analysis with a high percentage of users and easy access for taking samples as sources of drinking in gardens and plazas, schools, senior centers, health centers and clinics.
The analysis is conducted regularly in all villages and districts of the municipality.
It also analyzes water samples from the deposits to the various faculties of the University of Murcia, under an agreement signed with the City University of Murcia.
In particular, there were 27 deposits analysis of the University, to which we must add 17 controls in water reservoirs in homes and in the Visitor Center of Light.
Once a month, also controls the water coming out of the Contraparada.
As the analysis in wells and springs, in 2008, has controlled the source of Fuensanta and 73 samples taken in wells.
These periodic checks conducted by the Municipal Laboratory guarantee the quality of water consumed by the citizens of Murcia.
