Two doctoral theses at the University of Murcia have demanded the adoption of preventive measures against floods that regularly suffers the region and policies for land management and urban planning.
One of these theses, by Ramón García Marín and conducted by Professor Carmelo Conesa and Francisco Calvo, analyzes the risk of drought and socio-economic vulnerability Guadalentín Basin.
The research examines the climate risk and drought as natural disaster recurring interaction with social and economic fabric of the research area and concludes on the need to implement "preventive and mitigation measures to replace the current, urgent and possible ".
Alfredo Pérez Morales is the author of another doctoral thesis, supervised by Professor Francisco Calvo and deals with flood risk and policy over the territory in the south of the Region of Murcia.
This research demands a greater role for regional planning policies and urban planning, considering that they, at present, "do not seem to have a major role in preventing the emergence of new opportunities for disaster."
