Environment and Sports make old sneakers into sports courts (07/08/2009)

Recycling while creating new services for residents.

This is the objective of the Department of Sports and Environment are conducting a new initiative.

By recycling old sneakers are installing four sports courts in districts of Murcia.

These tracks are made of two layers.

The most superficial is a tapestry made from textured monofilament polyethylene fibers of high strength that allows the intensive use of the facility to be dedicated to children's play area and multi-sports courts.

The tapestry, which offers a very nice touch, is very bright colored tones that increase the attractiveness of the facilities.

Under this tapestry is arranged a layer that acts as a buffer in the fall also achieving a tread very nice.

This layer, about four millimeters thick, comes from recycled sneakers.

These tracks are currently being installed in four gardens in the municipality: the garden of Beniaján San Francisco, the garden of the Silver Cabezo Cañadas de San Pedro, Garcia heads the garden and the garden was Alta Los Almendros de La Alberca.

This project is part of the agreement 'Play Green' signed between the city of Murcia and the Spanish Olympic Committee whose objective is to implement environmental and sustainability criteria in all competitions and sports buildings in the municipality.

So Department of Sports and Environment are working to reduce, reuse and recycling of waste, air emissions, noise pollution, protection of green areas and biodiversity and promote sustainable mobility (public transport).

At the 'Earth Summit' held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, articulated the plan of action 'Agenda 21' which was aimed at environmental conservation and the promotion of sustainable development.

Thus, in 1999 the IOC adopted the "Olympic Movement's Agenda 21" and declared the environment as a third pillar of Olympism, alongside sport and culture.
