The City Council once again demonstrated his arrogance and lack of willingness to compromise, according to the Platform against parking on San Esteban (27/07/2009)

Note from the platform:

Criticize from the City of Murcia has not been at any time to dialog and negotiation with vendors of Traditional Market Garden of San Esteban, and the move to Pier surely has sent unemployment to 50 families.

Mayor House which once again shows his true conception of "Public Participation", refusing to talk for years, and despite more than 30 applications submitted in writing and more than 65,000 signatures submitted for registration.

In addition, demolition of the stalls are in violation of Article 9.3.5 of the General Plan Tree Protection de Murcia, and should therefore be suspended.

The Platform for Mobility "against the Garden Parking in San Esteban and Freedom of the City Council criticized the decision to wipe out the traditional market of the Garden of San Esteban, in every way.

Since the project started construction of two parking spaces in the heart of the city and one of them affecting the environment BIC San Esteban Palace and the Garden of San Esteban, vendors of Traditional Market Garden of San Esteban joined the Platform for Mobility and against these two parks.

Since then, both the platform vendors have tried unsuccessfully to meet with Mayor Miguel Ángel Cámara, who by the way in the 90's was against parking a similar project in the Garden of San Esteban promoted by the Socialist Party then ruled in the City, and against which many of the arguments wielded today raises this platform.

In all these years we have gathered over 65,000 signatures against those parking in the heart, accounting for a knock-on effect to traffic, causing more pollution, more noise and more insecurity for pedestrians.

In addition to affecting the environment BIC Palacio de San Esteban, involve removal of a garden with trees of size to put a plaza paved with flower pots, and include the destruction of archaeological remains home to the ground in that area, found in different publications .

Despite this overwhelming opposition to such projects (the largest ever recorded in this county), the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, has not considered members of this platform worthy of being received to discuss these issues, even denying the vendors, as members thereof, the right to negotiate its temporary location during the archaeological surveys, and if during the construction of the parking, if you finally get all the necessary licenses.

The fact that failure to respond to the need for a simple negotiation meeting with the sellers to avoid condemning some 50 families to end in failure because of ominous temporary location that has been imposed by the Council as it has not been assured market vendors returning to the Garden of San Esteban after completion of the work, speaks volumes about the true sensitivity and spirit of the Mayor and his administration.

Furthermore, this platform also claimed that the work being carried out in the garden of San Esteban should be suspended, based on breach of Article 9.3.5.

Protection of trees (see end of release), since, as seen in the images attached, is not complied with the protection of trees boards, whatever their size and age, and can be seen as you are throwing debris and metallic materials that damage the trunk of such trees.

If no such suspension and penalty to the executing company, lack of compliance with that article, it will be demonstrating the favorable treatment that this government team Murcia City Council makes certain companies, and shows what their true sensitivity to the trees, which is not a living being, but as a furniture that can be screwed and unscrewed at will.

In conclusion, this platform shows that the presence of archaeological remains is clear, though it is minimizing its importance.

Remember also that the presence of such material is not the only argument in opposition to this park, which is also incompatible with the Sustainable Mobility Plan is being drafted, and with any of the Basic Principles recognized worldwide in a matter of Sustainable Mobility , Reduction of environmental pollution and noise, and the Fight Against Climate Change.
