The Mayor and the College of Physicians bet Murcia's position as a destination for conference tourism (13/07/2009)

This is the sector that organizes conferences in Murcia

Joining forces to place Murcia as a preferred destination for quality and business tourism is the purpose of Town Hall and Convention Bureau, created in 1998.

Both work to promote tourism promotion, with the intention of strengthening the position of the city as the ideal venue for trade fairs and national and international conferences.

In this context, the Mayor, Miguel Angel House, and President of the College of Physicians, Rodolfo Castillo, today signed a collaboration agreement that aims to strengthen the chances of Murcia as a destination for congresses, meetings, conferences or symposiums in the medical sector -health.

In this connection, the agreement also aims to promote all congress facilities, hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions in the city.

In this regard, the City will support the events organized by the College of Physicians in the city and made available to participants in meetings tourist promotional materials and documentation prepared by the Bureau.

For its part, the College of Physicians made available to the dossier of their members specifically designed for the nomination to host symposiums and meetings.

46.7 million euros in 2008

Murcia has established itself as an ideal destination for congresses.

Proof of this is that this sector last year generated 46.7 million euros, arising from the organization of 1,008 meetings, with 127,120 participants.

The result indicates a significant increase over the average for the previous four years (2004 to 2007) in which they performed an average of 633 meetings with 100,773 attendees.

According to the report prepared by the Department of Tourism Maria Isabel Valcárcel directing participants in events are left between 317 and 156 euros per person per day.

Most meetings are held in hotels (56.75%), 12% in the Auditorium and Congress Center and a 31.21% in the University and other venues.

In terms of sectors engaged in congress, 79% are private companies and public institutions 21%.

The medical field with a 27.63% Congress is the most celebrated, followed by economic and commercial, with 26.97% and culture (17.54%).
