The Museum of Science and Water recovered Jiménez de la Espada in celebrating the bicentenary of Darwin's birth (30/06/2009)

The Museum of Science and Water marks the bicentenary of Charles Darwin with an exhibition at establishing a parallel between the English naturalist and his contemporary, the Cartagena Marcos Jiménez de la Espada.

Jiménez de la Espada was a zoologist, explorer and writer who participated in the Pacific Scientific Committee, billed as the largest ever undertaken by Spain in the Americas.

It is also an author in Europe thanks to his work on animal studies collected during the expedition.

The exhibition, held organized by the Department of Culture, in collaboration with the Directorate General of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity and the Seneca Foundation, began offering visitors the opportunity to select one of two possible routes: the cover and accompanying Darwin Beagle or deck of the frigate Triomphe, and continue to Jiménez de la Espada.

At the entrance of these two areas can find the biographies of these characters, while already inside an old book provides the visitor with technical data from ships, departure date, the crew ...

An interactive map of your trip will show the points that passed both browsers and themselves, by speech, explaining his adventures.

A second space allows knowing the theory of evolution proposed by Darwin and commemorate the 150 anniversary of its flagship publication 'The Origin of Species. "

This area is divided into seven distinct areas that show, easily the complex theory, with an introduction and six other areas: fossil evidence, anatomical and embryonic evidence, biogeographic evidence, mutation, natural selection and speciation.

In this other section can be seen live specimens of amphibians and fish, animal skeletons and butterflies, as well as participate in other activities proposed in posters or animated displays.

In addition, children can enjoy drawing the finches that Darwin found on the Galapagos Islands.

This exhibition will be open until 17 January.
