The Master Plan designed a network of 227 kilometers of track cycling trails in the town and parishes (26/06/2009)

Is ready the Master Plan for cycling in Murcia.

Idom company responsible for Engineering and Architecture SA have submitted this morning to the various working groups.

In this way, the result of an initiative led by Mayor Miguel Angel House, the Plan provides the first results.

The aim is to create a mesh of roads cycling trails throughout the municipality that is safe, accessible, well connected and intermodal.

After studying the characteristics of the municipality, in the Bicycle Master Plan proposes to insert ciclocalles whenever possible, to bring peace in this way traffic, changing (from battery cord) or eliminating parking.

This will build on the roads, rails and garden, where there is little traffic, signaling both vertically and horizontally areas for cyclists.

According to the Bicycle Master Plan, it is necessary to build a total of 227 miles of track cycling trails.

These are additional to those already built, planned or under way, totaling 257 kilometers.

In total, the municipality would have 484 kilometers of track cycling trails due to the dispersion of this municipality.

The intention is that these nearly 500 kilometers of track cycling trails are fully connected.

The Master Plan has divided the town into three zone: Coastal districts of the South (where it will create 126 miles of track cycling trails), districts of the North Coast (59.7 miles) and central (40 km.

As examples, the Plan appears Abenarabi Avenue where the bike path to go down the sidewalk or the Avenue of the Pines, which intends to use the service roads as ciclocalles.

In addition, it has been proposed as a short-term goal to install bicycle parking private every 150 meters, but then planned to install one every 75 meters.

In the center of Murcia states that would require a total of 123 bench.

Plan Objectives

The City Council looks to the Bicycle Master Plan the following objectives:

Encourage sustainable patterns of mobility through cycling

Designing a road network cycling trails.

Promote cycling as a means of transport in movement patterns.

Providing citizens with access to bike rentals and bicycle parking systems

Ensure the safety of bicycle users and pedestrians

Encourage intermodality between public transport, bicycle and pedestrian

Develop proposals for the integration of bicycle spaces for future urban developments.
