Murcia promotes the first meeting to promote the integration of young disabled (23/06/2009)

A total of 56 young people from eight countries, six of them from Murcia will meet in Cuenca (Ecuador) from 26 June to 6 July to design a Youth Information Centre accessible to young deaf and blind and analyze information such as juvenile youth inclusion strategy.

The group created through the efforts of the City of Murcia is the instigator of this activity, that aims to analyze the difficulties faced by disabled young people for personal and social development in their respective countries.

Participants will be young people who are blind or deaf from each participating country aged between 18 and 25 years old, guides or volunteers participating association (as required by the youth group) aged between 18 and 25.

(Remember that the volunteers who accompany young deaf shall understand sign language)

All activities are aimed at designing a Youth Information Centre accessible to young deaf and blind.

The general objectives of this project are:

• Strengthen partnerships for young disabled people to information through its ability to enhance youth participation and active citizenship in a democratic society.

• Analyze and assess the real involvement of young people in youth information projects.

• Establish strategies to involve young people and disseminate information and create their own points of information in a manner that facilitates access to information to as many young people as possible.

• Establish actions designed by and for young people adapted to young people with sensory disabilities to improve access to information.

• Understand the tools offered by new technologies as means to achieve easy access to information, in particular young people with fewer opportunities.

Most important activities

- Conference on Equality, Disability and Information by Don Ricardo Ruiz Carbonell, Assistant Director of equality of the National Human Rights Commission of Mexico.

- Workshop on Human Rights: As a follow-up to the Conference will be a workshop taught by members of Amnesty International in Ecuador.

- Implementation of a TV program: Paid by the newspapers reported Murcia, youth made it a TV show adapted for young blind and deaf children.

This program will be delivered over the Internet.

"Youth Participation Workshop: Dynamic be used to discuss the issues that matter most to carry out a task of consensus among the group on the concepts of youth participation, to discuss the importance of partnerships and initiatives to join forces

- Olympics integration, where the young participants with other youth of the city develop through play cover topics such as citizenship, involvement and values like friendship, teamwork and inclusion of all participants.
