CCOO requesting a second language school in Murcia City (21/06/2009)

Note sent by the Federation of Teaching CCOO Murcia Region:

The Federation of Teaching CCOO Murcia Region has learned some facts about enrollment applications for next academic year 09/10 in the Official Language School (EOI) from Murcia.

As the number of places available and registered, these data are approximate: in English it would be 81% of students enrolled in French 72%, 66% Italian and German 54%.

These numbers illustrate that they are not meeting the needs of language training and can give a reasonable response to the demand for language studies in our city.

Faced with this reality, they lose credibility political campaigns to promote foreign languages in our region within the educational field, enabling it by means of educational administration does not reflect the benefits of political discourse.

Thus, the group of middle-level students or university has serious difficulties in acquiring skills in foreign languages.

More specifically, it has signed a Social Pact II for Education in the Region wanted to highlight the value of language teaching as a cornerstone of our educational system.

Both the professional development of teachers as the empowerment of bilingual programs make up a concrete goal of the Compact II.

Result has been the response of a large number of teachers seeking accreditation in foreign languages to enable them to participate in bilingual programs, exchanges, study leave, etc.

Well, the first problem presented to them in gaining a place at the EOI of Murcia.

Once again the Ministry of Education is late in addressing the needs of citizens.

From the Federation of CCOO-RM Education continue to insist on the need for a second EOI for the city of Murcia, that services the demand of students and professionals interested in joining school bilingual programs, in addition other professional sectors.

The latter also to consider the current extensions School is Yecla, Cieza and Sewer, plus the expansion of the Prince, which means an increased workload for staff administration and services hard to imagine.

We urge the Ministry to enable for the next course enough space in school facilities permitted as an extension of the current EOI.
