Alejandro Valverde: "One more and one less" (13/06/2009)

Alejandro Valverde was fourth in the seventh stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, held today between Briançon and Saint François Longchamp.

Champion Spain continues to lead in the overall standings on the eve of the last stage to be completed tomorrow in Grenoble.

"Today was the hardest day and we have saved.

I am of course very happy, can not be otherwise.

The stage was tough, with two ports and a special category to finish first.

The attacks have been continuous from the start and the end is actually a group of 25 riders in front.

I could count on the support of all my teammates, who once again did a great job, to control the race at the start.

In the end we find the same three favorites together, Contador, Evans and myself.

Evans has started ten to fifteen times and each time to stop but was too weak to restrain him.

I suffered so much, I think like everyone else, and that is normal in a stage like this.

Evans knew he was going to attack me for being just 16 seconds.

He had no other solution than to start and start to try to sag.

Demonstrated in the time trial was very strong and the Dauphiné could be yours too.

Is only one day, will be much less severe than today, but we must be very attentive to the end.

The last stage is not critical because the port is far from goal and if I Evans strikes me there then, I have the great team that can organize and catch them.

I want to thank the fans for their support.

The French public is cool with me and I hope to win this race for them too. "
