Camera brings together merchants, consumers, unions and professional associations to promote the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Murcia (19/05/2009)

Under the slogan 'Move', the Plan will promote a series of actions to achieve more sustainable forms of travel

The Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, this morning the guidelines of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Murcia, under the slogan "Move, aims to integrate urban development and territorial mobility to facilitate the accessibility of citizens to its activities in less environmental impact and safely as possible.

Mayor's intervention has been done in the context of the presentation of the new Bureau of Transportation created by the City and is composed of representatives of trade associations, employers, consumers, unions, public parking, taxi, bus, professional , governments and universities, among others.

This presentation is a step in the implementation of the Plan, which now begins to gather all the information necessary for their development through the successful tenderers Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas and Taryet.

Meanwhile, citizens can actively participate in the Plan by sending their suggestions and concerns to the website www.muevetemurcia.es to be operational in the coming days.

The Mayor emphasized that the new plan "will advance a set of actions to achieve more sustainable forms of travel, most notably cycling, walking and public transport.

Similarly, another of our goals is to reconcile economic growth, social cohesion and protection of environment. "

The objectives of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Murcia are summarized in the following points:

Recovery measures and citizen urban quality.

Increased pedestrian network and modal shift.

Reorganization measures and traffic control.

Management measures and parking restrictions for private vehicles.

Empowerment measures of public transport.

Rearrangement of lines and frequencies.

Measures to improve mobility of persons with disabilities.

Measures to improve mobility of goods.

Measures to improve environmental quality and energy savings.

The new Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, as reported in their day, address the pedestrian from different areas to facilitate walking tours, as well as reduced congestion and the effects of congestion and noise pollution and accidents.

Also, try to use alternative transport such as cycling and others to reduce mobility by private car.

In four phases

The Plan has four phases of work, the first of which consists of basic information, analysis and diagnosis of the situation on demographic and economic trends, roads, land use, public transport, traffic, parking and environmental and energy issues.

There will be a second phase of defining the strategic framework that sets out the objectives of the plan and which the City Council shall, with the winner of this work, objectives and priorities.

The third stage will involve the development of the operational proposals, and the fourth, in forecasting the future, strategies, regulatory and policy measures will be developed.
