City buses further reduce CO2 emissions, following the agreement reached in committee comprising City Hall, and Latbus ALEM

The project monitoring committee for the use of renewable fuels in city buses meeting this week approved raising the biodiesel blend to 20% in view of the success of the experience.

Therefore the city bus line number 4 (which binds Infante, Fleet, Santa Maria de Gracia and Gran Via) operating from a year ago with B10 biodiesel, be even more friendly to the environment from this week going to use B20.

The success of the initial experience led the commission to unanimously approve the increase in the percentage of biodiesel used by these buses up to 20%, which will help the buses move to double the emissions reduction for a total of 27 tons of CO2 avoided per year.

Biodiesel is an oil similar to diesel fuel that is biodegradable and reduces emissions of greenhouse gases by 60%.

The bus line 4 are vehicles MAN 9 meters.

The commission's decision is based on the success of the review reports of vehicle maintenance as well as the experience of drivers who do not notice differences in the behavior of vehicles.

We recall that the monitoring committee is formed by the city of Murcia, ALEM, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change; ARGEM, the Energy Management Agency of the Region of Murcia and Latbus.

Following the methodology outlined from the beginning of the experience, will include a new control to the bus through periodic reviews.

If the results of the examination are satisfactory, the commission hopes to soon expand the fleet of buses running with B 20, 20% biodiesel.

This will continue developing and improving measures that are part of the Local Strategy to Combat Climate Change, which remember included the gradual renewal of the fleet of buses and vehicles with low emission of pollutants or the use of biofuels.

This strategy is part of the Local Energy Plan, which will get to meet the commitments of the City of Murcia acquired with the European Union through the Covenant of Mayors, where Murcia is committed to reducing more than 20% greenhouse emissions by 2020 .
