A virtual museum will reveal the pictorial heritage of the University of Murcia from anywhere in the world (07/05/2009)

A virtual museum will allow all stakeholders to understand the heritage of the University of Murcia, a heritage that has now reached to over four hundred paintings whose authorship oldest dating back to the XVII and XVIII.

The college fund is especially rich, however, works from emerging artists and locals from the sale of works in recent years.

The event was presented on Wednesday, May 6, in the cloister of the Faculty of Law at the University Extension Vice President Francisco Guillermo Diaz Cano Baños and Francisco Caballero, director of the Department of Art and coordinator of the Virtual Museum University of Murcia, which was commissioned to conduct a tour of the different chambers and works included in the project, illustrating the attendees about their abilities and characteristics.

According to the Rector, José Antonio Cobacho, this virtual museum will from now that "all this artistic heritage can be seen by anyone and from anywhere in the world, which makes clear the universal spirit and character of the University of Murcia" .

Guillermo Francisco Díaz Baños, Vice Chancellor of University Extension, the artistic heritage of the University of Murcia is one of the very essence of their historical memory, hence the importance of a museum of this kind, which allows viewing of the work that holds stakeholders from all over the world, since, as he says, "The best location for a work of art is to discover how it can be seen by as many people as possible", and this museum will allow the vision of the works that grace the University of Murcia from anywhere in the world.

The Virtual Museum of the University of Murcia is a three-dimensional space that allows visitors to tour the art treasured by the University during its nearly one hundred years of existence.

The virtual building, composed in simple lines and neutral colors for not stealing the limelight from the exhibits, consists of two plants that host a total of thirteen rooms, eleven thematic and two reserved for temporary exhibitions.

The museum in virtual space a total of 135 works, besides being able to access the document database that includes the total artistic background of the University of Murcia, comprising more than 400 works.

The project allows both researchers and any viewer can interact with the spaces, even designing his own room.

According to Cano Francisco Caballero, director of the Department of Fine Arts of the Vice President for University Extension and coordinator of the Virtual Museum project, the museum wants to be an open and dynamic project in the works and the viewer are the true protagonists.

The makers are planning the future incorporation of this university sculpture museum fund, not included now the difficulties that require three-dimensional display sculptures.
