La Lonja Mercamurcia Cattle brings together key industry representatives nationally (06/05/2009)

Strategies for differentiation of Spanish lamb, application of certificates of quality and food safety or the voluntary labeling of meat are some of the issues to be discussed during the day

La Lonja Mercamurcia Cattle, responsible for organizing the day's meeting, held every year at the headquarters of one of the slices listed in tables sheep belonging to AELMO prices (Spanish Association of slices and Markets in Origin).

With eleven slices represented and over 200 attendees, this event was attended by senior representatives of national industry, both producers and industrial buyers and suppliers of large retailers, and suppliers of ancillary products.

The celebration of the National Sheep Auction houses have three functions: the first function is to hold a joint annual auction, which serves to unify performance criteria and listing of the different slices of sheep in Spain.

The second, the advantage to catch up on matters of interest in the sector.

This time the theme was "State of the EU sheep and goat meat and strategies for the future" and the third function, facilitate a day of coexistence of all industry players, both for information exchange to generate business contacts and strengthen the bonds of understanding and friendship of all of them.

The inauguration was led by the Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerda, who noted the significant decline in consumption of sheep meat and the need to implement measures to improve this situation, or the importance of sheep in the Region of Murcia .

Also, under the title of "State of the EU sheep and goat meat and strategies for the future" during a round table discussed the situation and exposed sector actions to improve the sector in the short, medium and long term such as strategies for differentiation of Spanish lamb, application of certificates of quality and food safety or the voluntary labeling of meat.

After listening to each of these representatives and after a few minutes of discussion, we established the national reference price for sheep during the week.

Finally all participants held a fellowship meal at a popular restaurant in town.
